Robert Wilkins is a multi-award winning Writer/ Director known for his heartfelt, visually cinematic storytelling, with raw emotions. He is expert at crafting character driven stories, working with actors and non-actors alike. Starting in documentary Robert burst into the public consciousness with the visceral, taboo-bashing film ‘Gypsy Blood’ for Channel 4. An exploration of fathers and sons in the Gypsy community, it went on to be BAFTA nominated.
This hunger to unearth new voices, and eye for humanity, has led Robert to create original advertising films for brands including Guinness, Waitrose, Oppo, British Airways, Tesco and Sony and for charities including BBC Children in Need, Breast Cancer Now and CALM. Robert’s work for Guinness stands out for its stirring portrayals of raw footballing stories in Africa.
Robert’s important new advert for suicide prevention charity CALM has just dropped to coincide with the 2022 World Cup. It puts viewers into the mind of England footballing hero Declan Rice as he plays out a mental health breakdown under the glare of the stadium lights. Robert is proud to be a part of the conversation to reframe masculinity and strength, encouraging those who are struggling that it is okay to be vulnerable and speak out, as opposed to battling invisible opponents alone.
