Sophie Muller

As one of the most celebrated music video directors, Sophie Muller has spent over twenty years of her career, crafting some of the most seminal videos of the modern music era.

After graduating from St. Martin School of Art, Sophie pursued a master’s degree in Film and Television at the Royal College of Art before honing her skills as a music video director – establishing long-running professional relationships with Gwen Stefani, Annie Lennox, No Doubt, Sade, Garbage, and The Kills.

Aside from those select relationships, Sophie has worked with a wide variety of artists, who have all greatly benefitted from her visionary approach to film. These artists include Rihanna, Beck, Weezer, Jeff Buckley, The Cure, PJ Harvey, Coldplay, Lily Allen, Radiohead, Dolly Parton, the Dixie Chicks, Alicia Keys, The Strokes, Shakira, Bjork, Kings of Leon, and Beyoncé.

As a branded filmmaker, Sophie has collaborated creatively with brands, such as Reebok, MTV, L’Oréal, Gillette, Lexus, Mastercard, and Venus, just to name but a few.

Renowned for her live work, having art directed live tours and concert films, Sophie directed the first-ever live music video for TV broadcast in 2016. The video for Gwen Stefani’s song, “Make Me Like You” was filmed live on-air during the 2016 Grammy Awards. The exceptionally complicated one-take concept was met with widespread critical acclaim, winning several awards including a Cannes Lion Award. Other notable live works include creative direction for Sade’s 2011 tour for her sixth studio album Soldier of Love, and tour visuals for Gwen Stefani, No Doubt, the Dixie Chicks, and Garbage.

In 2019, Sophie directed music videos for MARINA’s, formerly known as Marina and the Diamonds, singles “Handmade Heaven” and “Orange Trees.”  That same year, she directed the video for SoundCloud sensation Lil’ Pump’s single “Be Like Me,” featuring the stylings of rap giant Lil’ Wayne. She also directed Blake Shelton’s “God’s Country” and the comeback video for Shakespears Sister’s recent single “All the Queens Horses.”

Sophie’s work has won numerous awards including a Grammy, several MTV Awards, a Brit Award, and numerous UKMVA, MVPA, and Music Week awards. Sophie has also won both the Music Video Production Association Director of the Year and the CADS Director of the Year.

Sophie also produces stills and photography projects across the world of high fashion and is represented by RSA Photographic for all photography work.
