The Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, in collaboration with Soon in Tokyo, commissioned a film designed to immerse audiences in an expanded sensory experience, shaped by the emotional currents running through this season’s operas.
Contrario's film, directed by Nono Ayuso, gives form to a distinct energy that emerges from the intersection of these works and seems to inhabit the theatre itself, revealing the Liceu not only as a stage, but as a living, breathing presence.
Director Nono Ayuso commented, "During the creative process, a feeling emerged that the force described in the script does not only inhabit the space, but also takes hold of those who occupy it. In the film, this energy “abducts” our protagonist and pulls her through different emotional states, as if she were moving through her own internal opera. There is no closed narrative, but rather a journey: moments of intensity, fragility, chaos, and calm."
