Michael is a comedian, actor, director, writer, and producer. He has a storied career in film and TV with his most recent work being Spoiler Alert, an award-winning film for Focus Features starring Jim Parsons and Sally Field. Additional recent credits include Apple TV limited series The Shrink Next Door starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd, and the Hulu series The Dropout created by Liz Meriwether starring Amanda Seyfried. Michael’s film The Eyes of Tammy Faye, starring Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield, premiered at Toronto Film Festival 2021. Prior to that, Michael directed The Lovebirds, an action-comedy starring Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae, which premiered on Netflix in May 2020.
Other directing credits include the Oscar-nominated film The Big Sick as well SXSW Audience Award winner Hello My Name Is Doris which he also co-wrote. He is the co-creator of Wet Hot American Summer and the HBOMax series Search Party. Michael directed the pilot and serves as an executive producer for the Showtime series I Love This For You starring Vanessa Bayer and served as an executive producer on the series In the Dark created by Corinne Kingsbury and with his producing partner Jordana Mollick.
