About

Mikey Alfred is an accomplished director and entrepreneur who has successfully incorporated his deeply held passions for fashion, art, film, skateboard culture, and his hometown of Los Angeles, into a burgeoning career.

He is best known as the owner of Illegal Civ, a million-dollar clothing company and creative collective born in L.A.’s skating community. The namesake apparel brand was distributed by popular skateboarding company Baker Boys in stores around the world. This grew into collaborations with top lifestyle and consumer brands including Converse, Doritos, Frito-Lay, and the fingerboard company Tech Deck. In more recent years, Illegal Civ partnered with Universal Music’s merchandising and manufacturing arm called Bravado, which distributed Illegal Civ apparel from 2018-2021.

Expanding even further, Illegal Civ operates a music label under Interscope that has offered creative consulting for niche-turned-superstar artists like Rex Orange County – whose music video for ‘Sunflower’ has amassed over 83 million views – and Omar Apollo, among many other up-and-comers.

As a filmmaker, Mikey has toured with Spike Jonze and Frank Ocean, co-produced Jonah Hill’s directorial debut Mid90s, and directed music videos for his friend and fellow collaborator Tyler, the Creator. Mikey has also produced skate films like GODSPEED, which amassed millions of views around the world and has even acted in three episodes of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s hit HBO series Ballers

As a director, screenwriter, producer, and cinematographer, Mikey has stood at the helm of thought-provoking narratives. His Fader mini-series, Summer of ’17, which he wrote and directed, centers around the disillusionment experienced by a group of young skaters as they navigate the transition from adolescence into adulthood. His comedic short film The Dispute premiered on Instagram TV and Facebook’s Curated channel. The film follows two sisters, who receive a credit card without a spending pre-approved limit in the mail and are inevitably forced to confront their relationship to their South Central upbringing.

In the spring of 2021, Mikey made his feature film debut with the coming-of-age skateboard comedy, North Hollywood. The film was #1 on iTunes for 15 days and was licensed to Showtime after a nearly $1 million bidding war. After a year-long run on Showtime, North Hollywood, and the independent film studio Illegal Civ, made another monumental deal with NBC to showcase the film.
