About

Leilah Weinraub is a filmmaker and conceptual artist living and working between NY and LA. She radicalized downtown New York’s youth culture scene, developing artists, brands, and films which subvert traditional markers of race, class, gender, freedom, lawlessness, and spectacle.

Among her most notable film work is the cult documentary SHAKEDOWN – which premiered in the 2017 Whitney Biennial before becoming the first ever film to stream on Pornhub. It landed on the Criterion Channel in the summer of 2020 and was recently acquired by the Studio Museum in Harlem to be included in their permanent collection. She has also created campaigns, both film and still photography, for Gentle Monster and Hustler.

Currently, Leilah’s developing a narrative feature adaption of SHAKEDOWN to self-direct with the Safdie Bros. producing, and Tiffany Haddish set to star. She’s also developing an adaptation of the seminal coming-of-age novel RUBYFRUIT JUNGLE, which Christine Vachon and Chelsea Barnard will produce.

In addition to filmmaking, Weinraub has also served as Co-Founder, Creative Director, and CEO of the CFDA Swarovski Award-winning global fashion brand, Hood By Air.
