About

Brian McGinn is an Emmy-nominated director and producer of acclaimed TV series and feature documentaries. His feature directorial debut, Netflix’s Amanda Knox, premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival and was named a New York Times Critics Pick, an L.A. Times Critic’s Choice, and nominated for two Primetime Emmy awards (Best Documentary, Best Writing for Non-Fiction).

He also directs and executive produces the 4-time Emmy-nominated, IDA award-winning Netflix series Chef’s Table, which he developed with David Gelb. Brian also directed an episode of the acclaimed 2018 Netflix original documentary series Dirty Money, executive produced by Alex Gibney.

Previous work includes the HBO comedy special Ferrell Takes the Field starring Will Ferrell; Chef’s Table: France, a spin-off of Chef’s Table; the award-winning comedic documentary The Record Breaker (“one of the best things anywhere” — The New York Times), and a series of multi-million hit viral comedy videos starring Dave Franco, Chris Mintz-Plasse, Alison Brie, Kenny G and Jon Daly for Funny or Die.

In April 2019, Netflix released Street Food, a docuseries that celebrates the chefs behind the best local bites in Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam. Brian acted as a co-creator and executive producer along with his fellow Chef’s Table collaborator David Gelb. That same month, Disney+ announced its first deal with Brian, David, and fellow producer Jason Sterman. Together, they are set to produce two of 10 food, travel, and lifestyle shows for Disney+; Marvel’s 616, an anthological docuseries exploring the comic giant’s creations, creators, and everyday people; and Earthkeepers, which spotlights conservationists. The trio is also set to develop and create content for all Disney+ platforms. He also served as producer on the documentary Stan Lee and co-executive producer on an episode of FX’s The Bear.

Aside from acting as a filmmaker and content creator, Brian has contributed to McSweeney’s and The New Yorker. He is currently based in Los Angeles.
